Freie Universität Berlin
Freie Universität Berlin was founded in 1948 as a comprehensive university for the western part of the city during the division of Berlin. Today, as a member of the Berlin University Alliance, it is one of the universities of excellence in Germany.
Recognized research rankings (THE/DFG) confirm its leading position – primarily in the humanities and social sciences. The liaison offices of Freie Universität are crucial for its sustainable internationalization. The office at the DWIH São Paulo supports FU Berlin researchers in international networking, in expanding research collaborations in Brazil and Latin America and advises students and researchers from the region on university programs and funding opportunities.
The “Maria Sibylla Merian Center Conviviality-Inequality in Latin America”, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, has been in its main phase since 2019. The FU Berlin leads the international consortium that coordinates the activities of this research network based at the Centro Brasileiro de Análise e Planejamento (CEBRAP) and the Universidade de São Paulo (USP).
