Society for Academic Study Preparation and Test Development (g.a.s.t.)
The Society for Academic Study Preparation and Test Development (g.a.s.t.) was founded in 2000 as a non-profit organization. g.a.s.t. receives funding from the Federal Foreign Office (AA) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), among others. Members of the association are the Counsel of University Rectors (HRK), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Goethe-Institut, the universities of Bochum, Hagen, Leipzig and Munich, as well as the Association for German as a Foreign and Second language (Fadaf) and the Work Group of the University Language Centres (AKS).
Through its extensive network of more than 1.000 partner institutions in over 100 countries, g.a.s.t. offers internationally certified language proficiency and scholastic aptitude tests, especially for the access to higher education in Germany. The institution also provides a digital language learning platform called Deutsch-Uni Online (DUO). For teachers, scientists and exam centres, the g.a.s.t.-Akademie offers broad training and qualification opportunities.
As a one of its kind institution in Germany, g.a.s.t. is also engaged in extensive research and development activities in the field of language and aptitude tests, including related IT solutions. g.a.s.t. is also working on several projects to develop technological and content innovations for national and international education purposes. The results of research and projects have a consequent impact on development, analysis, optimization and evaluation of testing procedures. The g.a.s.t.-owned TestDaF-Institut is associated to FernUniversität Hagen and Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
One of the priorities at g.a.s.t. is quality control and quality management, ensured by regular internal and external evaluations and validations. For this reason, g.a.s.t. is a member of different associations and organizations, such as the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE), the European Association for Language Testing and Assessment (EALTA), the European Association for Quality Language Services (EAQUALS) and the International Test Commission (ITC).
